Garmin inReach Mini Rental – satellite messaging and tracking in a small and compact package.
OER’s Garmin inReach Mini Rental offers backcountry communication, tracking, SOS, social media sharing and more.
- Measuring just under 4” tall by 2” wide and weighing a mere 3.5 oz, inReach Mini is fit for exterior pack pockets or accessory loops. It connects for messaging via the 100% global Iridium satellite network. You don’t have to worry about being within range of a cell tower or encountering spotty coverage.
- Send messages to email and SMS numbers
- Activate Tracking and your personalized Mapshare url to allow family and friends back to watch your progress in real time.
- Trigger an interactive SOS to the 24/7 search and rescue monitoring center
- Pair it with your mobile device (Apple iOS, Android, or Kindle Fire via Bluetooth) and free Earthmate app to access downloadable maps, color aerial imagery and more.
- Optional inReach weather forecast service provides detailed updates directly to your inReach Mini or paired device; basic and premium weather packages available
- Waterproof/dustproof (IPX7, standard submersion to 1m for 30 min.); impact-resistant (Mil-STD-810G for shock)
- 50 hrs. of battery life in 10-minute tracking mode with a clear view to the sky
- The Garmin inReach Mini is easily charged using the included USB cable, and can be used with most solar chargers.
SOS messages are received by GEOS, a worldwide emergency response coordination center with 24/7/365 staffing.

The following uses are available for the InReach:
• Pre-Set messages: Create 3 pre-written messages with pre-determined recipients.
• Messages: create a custom message on the fly and send to a contact or email/sms number.
• Incoming Messages: messages sent to your device
• SOS message: communications with Search and Rescue upon pushing the SOS button
• Tracking: send out tracking pings for folks back home to follow on your MapShare. Tracking intervals available from 2 minutes to 4 hours.
• Location Pings: allows folks to ping your location from the MapShare site (device must be powered on with view of sky)
• Weather – request a weather report for your location

Choosing your plan:
Basic – might send a message or 2 but using mainly for emergencies
Level 2 – more included messaging and ability to use unlimited tracking and location pinging. Great for when you plan to message more and possibly track your travels.
Level 3 – unlimited messaging and detailed tracking. For high use.
Your device will come already activated and ready to use, however there are other setup steps to complete that will be useful, if you choose. We create a personal account for you with Garmin to use with your device:
We will send you an email around the time we ship that will include a link to a Garmin website, a Username and Password
On that site you can do the following:
– Add contacts (email and SMS)
– Setup your 3 preset messages.
– Setup some ‘pre-written’ messages
– Update emergency contact infomation
– Activate Mapshare
– Adjust various settings (timezone, how/if you want your location to appear on messages, etc.)
– On the EX+ – setup routes, waypoints, import .gpx/.kml files, etc.
After you have completed the setup you will need to plug the device into a computer when you get it, or use the appropriate phone app depending on inReach model, and Sync it to move that info to the device.
If you won’t have a computer to sync with (i.e. we are shipping to a hotel, etc), won’t have the time, or are worried about getting setup done correctly, we can do it for you for a small fee. If you choose this option we’ll send you a form requesting information regarding contacts, messages, settings preferred, etc. and we will enter all of that info into your account and sync the device before shipping it to you. It will be ready to go right out of the box!
